From the age of thirty nine, Yucho had a dream_ she wanted to immigrate to Canada.

Many people believed her dream was crazy and impossible. She was a nurse and her husband was a doctor in China. Their parent and relatives all live in China. They had never studied the French before and should pass the interview with the bilingual. Despite these barriers, Yucho did not give up. Determination, hard work and encouragement from her husband helped Yucho fulfil her dream. In the fall of 2011, she passed the interview at Honking. At age forty two, she bought her family to come to Canada.

Euthanasia

Hello all. Thank you for inviting me to give you a presentation. My name is Yucho. I was a nurse. I used to work in the hospital for almost 25 years before I came to Canada. So, in my talk today I want to focus on euthanasia.
I am sure all of you have heard about the new law that grovernment will be pass by next month. Canada will become the forth country that gives the legislation for euthanasia in the world. I hope that my talk today will demystify some of the issues related to euthanasia.
I will begin by telling you briefly what I am going to cover. First, I will talk what euthanasia is. Then I will discuss some disputes about euthanasia. And finally, I will talk about the significance of the legislation of euthanasia. If you have any questions or want me to elaborate on something that interests you, just feel free to ask me at any time.
So, let's begin. What is euthanasia? euthanasia is assisted suicide, also termed as mercy killing. It means to take a deliberate action with the express intention of ending a life to relieve intractable suffering.
In the majority of countries euthanasia is against the law, and it carries a maximum sentence of 14 years in prison in the UK. but since 2009, voluntary euthanasia has been legal in other countries such as belgium, Netherlands, and Switzerland. Canada will soon be the forth country in the world. Here I have a question: If we put down animals when they are suffering or dying, why don't we treat human beings with the same level of compassion? There are three things every person should have rights to take control over. their lives, freedom and happyness. If you lose your freedom and happyness, living in pain, degenerative and irreversible conditions, your live completely becomes a torture. What should you do? You need someone that willing to help terminate life at your request.
From another point of view, suicide is a part of human rights. Euthanasia is actually giving the patient who is suffering through disases relief is they are willing to. It also can create less burden for the family and medical community due to the large amount of money hospitalizing will take. That will also give more medical resources for the ones who truely need it and wants to live. Euthanasia is actually a sign of progress in human rights, that everyone should take control over their lives. Lives doesn't need to be too long as long as you're living in a life you are wanted, and most people wouldn't want to live in pain.
Overall, eventhough some people don't agree on euthanasia, they think it's creul to kill somebody eventhough they are totally willing too. I think it's a good think because that should be everyone's right.

Based on our reading, think of a similar experience that has happened to you and narrate it to us. Use present tense, even though this was in the past.

Make sure to answer the 5Ws in your answer.
·                     When was it?
·                     Where was it?
·                     Who was with you?
·                     What happened?
·                     How did it end?
·                     Describe our feelings before and after the situation.

After coming to Canada, our family had to live with my sister and her son because she has a job and can’t take care of her son by herself. It really took me some time to try to persuade my husband. It’s difficult for him to accept it since we never live together before. He thought it will be inconvenient and it can cause troubles. Finally, he gave up resisting and did his best to take care of us. We don’t have other relatives and acquaintances here, but we have never felt lonely. The refrigerator is full of delicious food. The room is full of light. The house is always full of laugher.

GERUNDS AND INFINITIVES

Task 1:

Click on this link to get more practice on the use of gerunds and infinitives. Finish two exercises; repeat them till you get them all right.

Task 2:

Complete the text using the correct form of the verb in brackets.

Farmer Jones met Jane when he was just a young man. He couldn’t help (1 falling) in love with her immediately and asked her to marry him. She said yes although she knew it would mean (2 getting) up early to milk the cows for the rest of her life. “Love means never (3 having) to get up early to milk the cows”, said Farmer Jones, and explained that he would continue (4to get) up early to milk the cows so Jane could sleep late every day. Everything went well until they tried (5to increase) their profits by buying some chickens. The first night, a fox ate one of the chickens. Farmer Jones decided (to6 build) a fence to protect the chickens. But the ground was too hard so he couldn’t. He tried (to7 use) an axe to break the ground but it was much too hard. So he went to the local shop and tried (8to buy) a gun. But he didn’t have any identification so he couldn’t buy one. He tried (9to borrow) one from his neighbors but they were all worried about the fox too. “I regret not (10 buying) one when I had those rabbit problems”, he told Jane. So Jane went to the shop and bought a gun. That night she tried (11to stop) the fox. At first she tried (12to scare) the fox by shooting into the air but it didn’t work. So she tried (13to hit) the fox but she missed. She called her husband and he ran after the fox to try (14to catch) it but he wasn’t fast enough. They tried (15 shouting) at the fox and they tried (16 throwing) things at it and they tried (17 leaving) other food for the fox but nothing worked. Soon they had only 1 chicken left. They tried (18 asking) their neighbors for help and one of their neighbors told them to try (19 putting) tiger dung on the ground. So they went to the local zoo to try (20 buying) some tiger dung. They put the dung on the ground and they never saw the fox again.

Task 3

Answer the questions based on the summaries below. Use a gerund, an infinitive, or a simple form in your answer.
