Monday's Assignment

Do you rent your apartment? If so, what does your lease say about its condition? Do you remember talking to your landlord or tenant? Was the conversation difficult? Guess the theme for this week.

Here are your tasks:

1. Write your field trip report. 
1. Consider your favourite speaker, piece of career advice, networking partner, university memory, and free souvenir.
2. Make sure to interview your classmates, get them to check your writing, and include some pictures before publishing.

Field Trip Report: York University
Early last week, we were notified to register a meeting at York University on Friday morning. It was an important meeting for newcomers to introduce Pathways To Bridging Programs, Post-Secondary Education and Careers. After one hour journey, we arrived the campus. Some people were waiting there to help us find the meeting room. Without their help, we could be lost ourselves because that was a really big campus. Almost hundred people attended the meeting. The committee prepared coffee and tea so people could talk over coffee. Most speakers were immigrants. They came from all over of the world. They shared their experiences about how to get the job and encouraged us to keep learning. There were a few colleges at the meeting. As far as I'm concerned, to find the job, I need knowledge, methods, skill and experience.

B:  This is she. How can I help you?

A:   I was wondering if the apartment on Main Street was still available?

B:   Yes, it is vacant. Are you interested in seeing it?

A:   Great. I'd love to see it.

B:   How about today at 6 pm? Can you make it?

A:   I have no problem with 6 pm.

B    Sounds good. Do you know how to get there?

A:   yes. I drop by there on my way to work. 

B:   I will have an application form with me. You can fill it out if you like it.

A:   Okey. Do I need to bring anything with me?

B:   No. The only thing I need to check is your driver's license.

garage--There is a big garage at the basement in our building.
landlord--We signed the lease with the manager, not landlord.
laundry room--There is a laundry room at the basement.
mailbox--We do not have ourselves mailbox in this building. 
park lot--Each family have one park lot in the basement.
park space--The park space for visitors is outside of the building.
roommate--I have 2 roommates in this apartment.
second floor--Our apartment is on the second floor.
security deposit--Security deposit is called last month's rent.
smoke detector--There are some smoke detector in our apartment.
stairway--There are the emergence lights in the stairway.
tenant--The landlord hopes all tenants pay their rent on time.
vacancy--Is there any vacancy apartment I can apply?
